This is the starting point that I mention to everyone interested in hearing about what it takes to be a professional indexer. Martha Osgood, Back Words Indexing, sums up the issues and introduces indexing in a very realistic and fun way.
Indexing Society of Canada / Société canadienne d’indexation (ISC/SCI)
The ISC/SCI web site provides basic information about the organization and links to indexing-related web sites.
Pacific Northwest U.S. Indexers (PNW/ASI)
PNW/ASI serves indexers and other publishing professionals in the Pacific Northwestern U.S. and Pacific Southwestern Canada – primarily those in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and British Columbia.
American Society of Indexers (ASI)
If you are interested in learning more about indexers and indexing, take a look at this Web site that I co-authored (but no longer maintain) with Jan Wright (a terrific indexer and a dear friend).
This web site for the (British) SI includes tons of information about indexing in general and about their memebers. They’ve got a good collection of pages under the category “Services for publishers and authors”
This is my favorite online gathering place for indexing discussions. It’s a traditional email discussion list.
